| Japanese Spitz Information |
Overview: The Japanese Spitz is a family oriented breed. It loves to be with its master and family all the time and will protect them well at night. It is both smart and active and will want to be active on a regular basis. This is a small to medium sized breed. This canine only needs to play around for it entertainment; fetching being one of its favorite forms of fun. Temperament: The Japanese Spitz is a smart and interactive dog that can be both playful and protective. It can make an excellent watchdog and will alert its masters when it feels the need to. If its master is consistent in training this breed, it will be able to learn really quickly. It loves to learn new things and likes to play games that require it to retrieve. This dog gets along well with other pets and it shouldn't be a problem around children. History: The origin of the Japanese Spitz isn't confirmed, but it is speculated that it descended from the Siberian Samoyed. Though this theory is considered controversial, there are some who claim that the Siberian Samoyed were bred to be smaller dogs, leading into the creation of the Japanese Spitz. There are many things that lead people to believe it is related to the Siberian Samoyed from looks to temperament. It first was introduced in the late 19th century and around 50 years later it had become very popular in Japan. The numbers have slowly fallen in its native home, but it has gained popularity in both Europe and the United States. Names: The Japanese Spitz is also known as the Nihon Supittsu. Physical Characteristics: The average adult Japanese Spitz can be 12 to 15 inches in height, and should weigh between 11 and 20 lb. The coat on this breed is long and pure white. It has small ears that are pointed upright. It has a wedge shaped face and a slightly tapered muzzle. Care: This dog should get a long walk daily, but otherwise it is able to adapt to many different life styles. Sometimes it just needs to be let out into a safe and large outdoor environment to run and play. It can live inside as long as it gets enough exercise outside every day. It is fairly active inside and should be able to keep itself entertained. The coat should be combed and brushed often to remove any dead hair and tangles. |
