| Overview: The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is a good watchdog as it will announce when there are strangers present and is slightly suspicious of people it doesn't know. The ancestors of this breed were herding dogs and as such this canine has a lot of energy and stamina for herding purposes. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog needs to be trained to be a social dog but it learns quickly and can become a great companion in a short amount of time. |
| Temperament: An often energetic and playful animal, the Entlebucher Mountain Dog is good for an active home with children and other play mates. This dog is very smart and can be trained easily. If taught this dog will protect its family with utmost loyalty. |
| History: The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is the smallest of the four Swiss Dog breeds. This breed started in Entlebuch located in Switzerland. This dog was known as the Entlebucherhund since 1889. With it's good agility and stamina this dog has been used as a cattle herding canine for years. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog was classified as a pure breed in the year 1926 by Dr. B. Kobler. |

| Groups: The Entlebucher Mountain Dog was formally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2011 when it was assigned to the Herding Group. |
| Physical Characteristics: As this is the smallest of the four Swiss breeds it can be between 16 to 21 inches in height and 47 to 62 lb in weight. This dog comes in only tricolor with black, white and tan markings. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog usually has a double coat as a single coat is undesirable. Normally the tail on this breed is docked, however that is optional. |
| Care: This dog is relatively easy to take care of. However, it requires a fair amount of exercise in order to stay happy. This dog breed is made for the cold mountainous regions of Switzerland and not for very much heat. If it is hot outside it will try to keep itself cool. The coat of the Entlebucher Mountain Dog is easy to maintain and only needs to be brushed on rare occasions. |
